What makes Layd™ hats different?
Each Layd™ hat features a patent pending, high quality, removable silk lining engineered with a small percentage of stretch for added comfort. This innovation allows you to protect the health of your hair, maintain the quality of your hat, and easily clean your lining as needed. The hats themselves are purposefully minimal in order to vibe with your own unique personal style, sans annoying labels or unnecessary trinkets.
Are Layd™ hats made for my hair type?
Layd™ hats are made for anyone whose hair is natural, relaxed, curly, straight, wavy, kinky, coily, coarse, dry, oily, damaged, healthy, loc'd, braided, protective styled, in a wig/weave, dyed, long, short, or non-existent. Yes, our hats are made for everyone!
Though silk is naturally beautiful and luxurious, we admire its unparalleled technical functionality. Silk is the strongest natural fiber available, and its breathable, soft, lustrous texture makes it perfect for protecting your hair. We use a special silk charmeuse which reduces friction and frizz, eliminates breakage and shedding, is hypoallergenic, and won't absorb your hair's moisture. Its low heat-conductivity keeps you warm in colder temperatures, yet cool in warm weather - pretty much a miracle fabric.
How do I remove the lining?
Removing the lining is really quite simple. Seriously. Just unzip from your felt hat, or unbutton from your beret or beanie. Voila! Need a visual? We've got you. Check out our How-To page for a step by step video.
Can I wash the lining?
Yes! Our patent pending design allows you to remove the linings from our hats and wash them independently. Avoid fabric softeners and harsh bleaches. To remove a tough stain or odor, we recommend pre-soaking the lining in a basin or sink filled with a mixture of water and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar for 10-15 minutes. Always gently hand wash your delicate silk lining in cold water with mild detergent. Rinse clean, then lay flat or hang dry. Slight color bleeding is normal and will decrease with use.
Our felt hats measure 23 1/2" at the base of the crown, intentionally designed to be larger than the standard size of most felt hats (21 1/2") in order to accommodate voluminous hair or larger heads. Our beanies and berets are standard size, designed to stretch and adjust to each individual.
How do I measure my head size?
Take a measuring tape and measure from the back of your head towards the top of your neck, around the tops of your ears, and to the front of your forehead. We recommend doing this with your hair in a style that you would wear underneath a hat. Sign up for our mailing list and stay tuned for hair styling tips and inspiration!
